MTV FORA, Peach Beserk & Blog Babes

I got my hair fixed first thing on Monday and it’s back to pink for me.  Thank you so much to Matt at Brennen Demelo Salon for coming in early on a Monday morning, fixing my colour and styling my hair for the MTV event.  Then it was off to see my lady Krista Mae, makeup artist extraordinaire, to get my makeup done.  I felt like such a princess having people do my hair & makeup and put me in a pretty dress to wear.  I’m always the business person in the background, holding on to everyone’s stuff and it was such a nice change to be the one in the spotlight, so to speak.

My sister Kristin was able to make it out, which was so great.  I love going places with her and she looked hot in a blue suede dress.  My cupcake dress is by Peach Berserk.

The first part of our fun day was to watch the interview with Kelly Cutrone of People’s Revolution.  Some of you may know her from her work on The Hills & The City.  She’s a fashion PR powerhouse and now a TV star and author.  I really wanted to meet Kelly in person and get a chance to talk to her, but she was on her promo tour for her book “If You Have To Cry, Go Outside” so she was whisked away to her next interview.  Kelly is one of my business idols and I can’t wait to read her book and hopefully have the chance to meet her in person one day.

After the interview the media/VIP’s went up to the Masonic Hall for a sneak preview of MTV’s new online magazine FORACasie is the features editor of the magazine and she invited a whole bunch of bloggers and media including the Toronto Blog Girls.  It was so great to see all the girls out and dressed so pretty and I got to meet a few more Tweeps/Bloggers IRL.

The magazine will be live in April and the first issue is a Prom theme featuring dresses by Peach Berserk.  Casie & Kingi worked together to dress the Toronto Blog Girls for the event, hence the pretty dresses.  There were a few girls that were saying some nasty things about us dressing up on their blogs & twitter feeds.  Who knew that wearing pretty prom dresses would cause girls to act like we’re in high school?  I was pretty surprised that anyone invited to an event as media would be negative about us wearing dresses featured in the magazinebut I’ll chalk it up to jealousy because we all looked gorgeous.

They had a photo wall up for us to take “Prom Photos” and we all took advantage and hammed it up for the cameras.

Dan & Jessi introduced the magazine and showed outtakes of their “celebrity photo shoot”.  These two are a great pair and they work together really well.

My sister and I had the chance to chat with Jessi and she’s such a sweetheart.  We were talking about her most interesting interview and she floored us when she said Tom Cruise!  Apparently he is really nice and down to earth in person.  Who knew?

After the preview we went down to Hemingways for some drinks and food.  It was such a great day and thank you to Casie & MTV for starting off my week with such a fun day.

This was my New Year’s Eve/Birthday outfit.

Shkank.com is Live!

Some fun news to share.  A project that I have been working with Nicole Arbour on has just launched it’s newly redesigned website in time for the holidays, Shkank.com.  If you haven’t been to the Shkank store on Yonge St you have to get down there.  The dresses and designs make you feel like a kid in a candy store.  They will work with you to create a custom dress or you can choose from one of their many “one-of-a-kind” pieces.  The designers, Rod Philpott, Phi and Trevor are very talented and creative guys who can whip up the most insane outfits in a matter of hours.

They have dressed Nicole for years, for photo shoots, her 2009 calendar, awards shows, hosting gigs and appearances and she always looks fabulous and I am dying to have them dress me for my next big event.

Check out their completely redesigned site, done by The Digital Beach and make sure you if you are in Toronto you take a trip to the store to check it out, you will not be disappointed.  Make sure you tell them Carly sent you :)

I dyed my hair pink!

I finally did it.

I have wanted to dye my hair pink for as long as I can remember.  I did the Kool-Aid and temporary colours in high school, but never my full head or with a semi permanent colour.  I was also in jobs where bright hair colours wouldn’t be appropriate.  Some people may still say now is still not appropriate, but I don’t care.  I’m am so happy about it!

I needed a change and didn’t want to spend a ton of money if I didn’t like it.  I learned how to use photoshop to change my hair colour yesterday and tried it out.

Pink-Hair

I liked it and Chad did too.  I didn’t want to go bright pink, it was too harsh with my face.  So we went to the big Shoppers on the Lakeshore and I got my dye and also some new vitamins to try.

The vitamins are something I’d been wanting to try for a while, after reading about them on on Gala Darling’s site.  They are Multi + Daily Glow and it says “Helps improve skin firmness, appearance & texture. Helps control acne. Maintains good health.” on the bottle.  I started taking them today and I’m curious to see if they work.  The reviews I’ve found are excellent.

I got a glass of wine, Barefoot Merlot, Chad brought it home the other day and it’s really good, got into some hair dying clothes and got to work.

I bleached it first with Feria 250 Extra-Bleach Blonding, wrapped my head in saran wrap and left the bleach on for 60 minutes.

I rinsed in cold water and used the Feria conditioner, then towel-dried my hair and let it breathe for an hour.  After an hour I shampooed with Blue Shampoo to tone the blonde and towel-dried it to put the Pink in.  I used a full container of Manic Panic Cotton Candy Pink and let it sit for 20 minutes, then wrapped it in saran wrap for 40 minutes more.

I rinsed with hot water and used the Feria conditioner again.  I blow dried it and the colour was exactly what I wanted!  It’s pink with blonde highlights.  So awesome because I didn’t want a solid colour.  Chad liked it and ever our neighbor thought it looked good.  When I woke up this morning I was instantly in a better mood, and it didn’t stain my pillow case.

I got up and got dressed up for the day, did my hair and makeup and made Chad take pictures.  I can’t believe how happy I am that I did this and I wish I’d done it sooner.

I love pink hair!

Sister Day

Yesterday I had an awesome day with my sister.  Her movie premiere is tomorrow night  (You Might As Well Live, 6pm Bloor Cinema) and we spent the day pampering and getting ready.

First stop was Fiorio at Yonge & St. Clair for manicures, pedicures and paraffin wrap.  We got gift certificates from our brother for Christmas last year and it was such a great gift!  I am definitely a fan of getting my nails did and I have pretty nice nails to begin with.  I got a french manicure on my fingers and hot pink on my toes.  Kristin did yellow fingers and blue toes.  It was really relaxing and the paraffin was amazing.  My feet are so soft.

After the salon we stopped quickly at Shkank to check out dresses and then down to The Brow House to meet Kira and get our brows done.  I had a great chat with her, stay tuned for more on that.

After brows we ate Licks, yum, and decided to check out a Winners.  We went to the big one at Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke and I SCORED!  I got three pairs of shoes for under $100.  Two were shoes I’d been eyeing for a while, that were now in clearance for WAY LESS then they ever were.

Betsey Johnson flip flops – I wanted these since the beginning of summer and they were way to expensive.  Now they’re on clearance for $9!

L.A.M.B Shoes – My sister has the same ones.  They were ridiculously priced for Winners before – Like $80 and I got them on clearance for $22.

So hot.  I love these shoes.  But not the look on my face or my messy hair.

And then, I spotted them.  Out of the corner of my eye a bright flash.  Something I had wanted my entire life, but could never afford.

Aren’t they amazing!  Pink, 14 hole, Docs!  I was so excited I couldn’t put them down.  And they only had one pair in my size!  And they were $60!!!!!!!!!!!

These are officially my new favourite pair of shoes.  Ever!  I’m kinda thinking I should’ve bought two pairs, so I would never have to worry about them getting ruined and being unwearable.  I still might do that and keep one pair wrapped up for future wearing pleasure.

How awesome are they!  I’m excited just writing about them.  I’m debating whether or not to wear them to the You Might As Well Live Premiere tonight.  Are you coming out?  Make sure you say hi to me if you do.

I’m going to put these boots on right now.
