You might remember my early birthday present from Kathryn was a chance to go see Matthew Good play for the taping of his Live at the Concert Hall show. It’s on TV tonight and maybe you’ll see me. I’m the girl with pink hair
Kathryn picked me up at Casie’s and we headed to the Cameron House to see Chris Assaad play. We came in at the end of another artists set and I’m sorry we didn’t get to see the whole set. Matt York was his name and the 4 songs I heard of his were amazing. He’s got a very soulful voice and it gave me goosebumps to hear him. Dad you would definitely like this guy, very Motown-bluesy. I got a few photos and a video of Death Came a Knockin’. I definitely want to see him perform again and I wish I had’ve bought his CD. You’ve got a new fan in me!
Here’s the video:
After Matt was a friend of ours Chris Assaad. I’ve heard him play a few times now, with his old band and as a solo act and he always puts on a solid set. This time Chris had a little three-piece, himself, Terri Oliver singing backup vocals and Keven Mendes (another friend) on drums. They brought Matt York on stage to do a couple songs and it was good night of music.
Last Tuesday my sister and I had the opportunity to go to Sheridan College for a presentation to their animation students. The presentation was the creation and concept for the animated music video for Hail The Villain’s upcoming first single “Take Back The Fear”. The video was created by Sheridan Animation Alumni, Rune Entertainment, based in Etobicoke. They did a 45 minute presentation and Q&A to review of the techniques and tools used to create the video and the soon to be launched Hail The Villain website.
L-R: Drew, Chad, Bryan & Joe of HTV, Paul & Peter of Rune
The video took over 6 months to create and is a combination of 2D and 3D computer animation. The most interesting thing for me was to see the bands ideas (and story that Chad had told me so long ago) actually come to life. I was lucky enough to see rough sketches and versions of the process along the way and it is unbelievable the time and effort everyone put into this project. In my opinion Rune captured the Metal City and the characters the way HTV had envisioned it. Unfortunately I can’t share any of the images or video stills until it is officially released this year.
After the presentation we all went to eat at the 50’s Diner, which tasted like they heated up the food from the ’50’s. I was not a fan, but the company and discussion we had was worth it. I love seeing Darryl and Wyn Ihi guys!) And then Kristin and I dropped the boys off for a meeting and went back to the city to get relax and get ready before their show that night.
Back at the college the show started off with the first screening of the finished music video. It looks so great I wish you could see it! Then HTV played a wicked set including 3 new songs, Look Ma No Head (below), Downfall and Deathmaster Snitch. There were a whole bunch of friends and family out at the show and we had a great time.
Kawi was out, working hard side stage.
Sisters Unite! Kristin, Jordana (Drew’s sister) and Me with our VIP passes. This is my first HTV VIP pass. I’m keeping it.
I can’t wait for their album to be released. It’ll be out sometime this summer. Until then, check out Deathmaster Snitch live or go to my YouTube for more videos from the show.
Friday night was the DWW show at Sound Academy. It was an awesome show, the boys did amazing as usual and it was great to see such a huge crowd out. I had an interesting time to say the least. I lost the entire group of people I usually hang out with and while looking for them I bumped into a bunch of random people I hadn’t seen in a while and then finally made my way upstairs to and watched the rest of the show with my Mom & Aunty Judy and the other families. Kat and I chilled after she was relieved from Merch duties. Bonus to being up there was that the label people bought Kat & I drinks and shots of Tequila.
I skipped out on the after party at Mod Club and got a ride home with Mom, but from what I hear it was a blast.
Here are the best shots of the night.

How many of you came out? Did you have a good time? What did you think?
DWW also announced that they have been asked to play some shows on Timbaland’s tour. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Check out their sites for tour dates.
