HaiHaiTO Fundraiser

On Thursday Feb. 11 I went to the #haihaiTO Haiti Fundraiser  at The Courthouse (thanks Sean!).  It was a really fun night and I met some cool new people and lots of Tweeps IRL.  It was kind of surreal to be in a room where I recognized people from following them and everyone was so happy and friendly.  I smiled and said hi all night long.  I was also surprised at how many people knew who I was from Twitter.  I guess pink hair does stand out.  I bumped into Breanna at coat check (yes, I checked my coat it) and she is one of my new favourite people.  Her sister came with her and she was super nice too.  I’m pretty bad with names the first time I meet people and I completely forgot hers.  They used ’sister power’ to win a yellow Flip camera.  I should’ve brought my sister along, cause nothing beats sisters :)

One of these was a winner!

Everyone was in a party mood and the dance floor was the place to be.  The DJ was spinning 90’s hip hop and Top 40 tunes and it felt like high school dances, but way cooler and without having to sneak the alcohol.  I haven’t been out dancing in a long time and the whole night was such fun.

Every photo I have of Sheldon his eyes are closed.

Where did this mask come from?

Best dressed of the night.

You can see we left the event with our jackets, purses and Breanna with her prize!  I want a Flip so bad and a yellow one will make my day.  We’re gonna have to make a video together with your new one :)

I had a great night and it was fun to meet so many awesome new people.  I can’t wait for the next meetup.

Update on the situation

I went yesterday to Wetbar to get my jacket back.  There was a pile of about 50-60 jackets that had not been returned to their owners on a freezing cold Saturday night.  I got Casie’s red blazer, but my jacket was nowhere to be found.  How did my jacket go missing from a mandatory coat check?  Who would take someone else’s winter jacket home?

The manager of the club, Lisa Marie, said that it would be returned and she would call me in a couple of days to let me know.

If you took a jacket that wasn’t yours from Wetbar/Masion/Loft on Saturday night, please bring it back!  Someone is very cold right now.

If they don’t have it by the end of the weekend I’m going to pursue the matter further.  There’s got to be something the club can do if they make it mandatory.

It’s so easy to see, everyone can agree, just let it go.

Alright.  I’m back and it’s the second time I’ve pulled a lyric from this song for a title.

Too much drama kept me from writing, so I had to take a break because I really couldn’t write about the situation.

I still feel good and positive about this year.  Last month was a very busy month and honestly, a good learning experience.  I got caught up with lots of work, took on some exciting new projects, and organized my time to be more productive.  I’m so boring and grown-up now, but man have I ever come a long way since I started.

I did have a serious case of the winter blues yesterday.  The bf & I had made plans to go to the Haiti Benefit at Sound Academy that he had to cancel because he unexpectedly had to be out of town for band stuff.  I hate it that my plans take a back seat to band stuff, but luckily I’m a pretty understanding girl and I get that at this point in our lives career comes first.  I’m not a pushover though, and it does piss me off, but it’s the price you pay for being in the entertainment business.

Before he left he went out to run an errand and came back with a big bouquet of flowers (he got the not so subtle hint I’d been dropping for 3 years that I like flowers).  There’s just something about fresh flowers that help to brighten up my mood.

I ended up being invited to go to the benefit with my friends Shaun & Joanne (thanks guys) but kept working til 11:30pm on a new project so I didn’t make it out.

Sometimes all you need is good friends to pull you out of a funk, and I’m lucky to have some of the best friends a girl could ask for.

Can I Get Rid of This?

There is one question that my boyfriend asks that drives me crazy and will get an angry response out of me, “Can I get rid of this?”  He is a minimalist and has an urge to get rid of things.  He cannot understand why I would have more than one Sharpie, more than one pen, more than one blank notebook, more than one highlighter.  I must remind you that I work from home, and all of these things are stored away in my office area.  If any of you have ever worked in an office environment you may have knowledge of the “supply closet” which contains extra pens, notebooks, highlighters, etc., in case something runs out and you don’t have the time (or resources) to drop everything, run out and buy a new one in order to continue what you were working on.  Over the years I have accumulated a good stash of things that have been very useful (and money saving) in my endeavor to work for myself.

What brings this post on today was the discovery by my BF of 10 floppy disks, stored in my drawer.  “Can I throw out these floppy disks that you have?”  My answer, of course, was NO.  He then told me that computers no longer have disk drives (duh) and that I should put the info on CD/DVD and get rid of the disks,.  He also offered to do it for me.  Now I am very aware that floppy disks are no longer used, and that new computers do not have drives for them.  I am also aware that this is an obsolete technology and that I should transfer the information to a memory stick or CD.  These disks contain old files, tax info from previous years, old business files, my book of poetry that only one other person has ever read, and really not things that anyone else needs to view or have access to.  I admit that they are things that I don’t need right now, but might someday (should I ever get audited, want to publish my book, review old documents, etc).  I also still own a desktop, that my assistant uses, with a disk drive, so there has not been a reason for me to convert the files.

The comparison to me keeping these disks in a drawer in my office area was that he should store his 4 summer tires (currently stored in a shed) in our basement (which is not really a basement, but the lower half of our home where our bedrooms and bathroom are).  This statement pissed me off and my reaction was as such.  Perhaps I shouldn’t have gotten mad, but I did and then proceed to tell him he was being an idiot.

There are two other things that I have kept that he does not understand why I don’t want to part with them: A small (10 L) rubbermaid container with VHS tapes (my Disney collection, movies & TV shows that I have been in and created, and a few of my favourite films) which I admit are an obsolete technology, but I still have a VHS player and do not have the funds to transfer to or replace them with DVD; and my collection of books, which are housed in two bookshelves.  I am an avid reader and I cherish my books.  I love the feel of turning the pages and I value each and every book I have.  It has always been a dream of mine to have a library or a least a wall of books in my office.  I know that there are new technologies where I can read online or download all the books that I want, but I’m not interested.  I take a book with me when I take public transit, I read at night before bed and I’ve even been know to curl up on the couch and read a book in an afternoon.

Should I get rid of these things and upgrade to new technology?  What’s your opinion?  I’d love to hear it.

So there is the end of my rant for Saturday.

YouTube, here we come!

We’re starting the New Year off with something brand new, a kaponetwo YouTube channel. I posted my first v-log yesterday and it was an interesting experience, to say the least. It’s amazing how long it takes to make a 20 second video. I did about 20 takes until I got one that I was happy with.

I’m debating whether to use Vimeo or YouTube as my main video hosting site.  If you use either I’d love to hear your opinon/feedback.

I’ve added a button to the sidebar or you can click the one below to subscribe and make sure you add me as a friend.
