March 8 is International Women’s Day

And this year to celebrate International Women’s Day 2010 the “International Committee of the Red Cross is drawing attention to the hardship displaced women endure. The displacement of populations is one of the gravest consequences of today’s armed conflicts. It affects women in a host of ways.

Women displaced by armed conflict – often living alone with their children – are frequently exposed to sexual violence, discrimination and intimidation. Many face poverty and social exclusion as well. International humanitarian law therefore includes specific provisions protecting women, for example when they are pregnant or as mothers of young children“. (Wikipedia)

I want to say thank you to the wonderful, inspiring women in my life.  My Mom, Sister, Aunts, Mugga, my Ladies, my girlfriends and the Toronto Blog Girls.  Love you all and thank you for being the important women in my life.

Make sure you take a moment today to thank the women in your life.

Inspired: Davian den Otter

One of my talent came over Monday to pick up some stuff and chat before she leaves for a month in Africa.  Davian is an Actor & Yoga instructor, and she is 1 of 2 Canadians, out of 20 people in North America, who raised $20,000 each to build a school in Uganda, through the Off the Mat, Into the World ® (OTM) a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging yoga and activism.

Davian will be blogging daily about her travels and experiences in South Africa, so make sure you check it out and leave her a comment.  She also gave me a beautiful calendar that she created to help with her fund-raising efforts. (Thank you!  I love it)  Check out InspireReach for more info on Davian’s work and to get yourself a calendar.

Congratulations on reaching your fundraising goal Davian.

It was really nice to see her before she left and to hear about her upcoming adventure.  It really made me proud to represent a woman who would take time out of her busy life and career to help others less fortunate.
