March 8 is International Women’s Day

And this year to celebrate International Women’s Day 2010 the “International Committee of the Red Cross is drawing attention to the hardship displaced women endure. The displacement of populations is one of the gravest consequences of today’s armed conflicts. It affects women in a host of ways.

Women displaced by armed conflict – often living alone with their children – are frequently exposed to sexual violence, discrimination and intimidation. Many face poverty and social exclusion as well. International humanitarian law therefore includes specific provisions protecting women, for example when they are pregnant or as mothers of young children“. (Wikipedia)

I want to say thank you to the wonderful, inspiring women in my life.  My Mom, Sister, Aunts, Mugga, my Ladies, my girlfriends and the Toronto Blog Girls.  Love you all and thank you for being the important women in my life.

Make sure you take a moment today to thank the women in your life.

My jacket was found!!!

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to let you know that Wetbar found my jacket & pink pashmina!  I guess it was a good thing to write it on my blog because it was returned to the club!  It’s great that they found it just in time for the warm weather to hit us.  Oh well, can’t complain that the sun is here.

Thank you for everyone that commented and shared your stories.

I am an Artiste

We had Sunday dinner at the parents house.  It was fun, as always, and we had a very interesting discussion about lawyers.  It was noted by Mom that I should have been a lawyer because of my impressive arguing skills and the way I can make people see my point.  Amazingly enough I ended up as an Agent. haha

Instead of bringing out the albums of baby pictures, Mom went one better and brought out some of our old artwork.  Here are my paintings from 1987.

As you can tell, I was a very talented child.  I mean, just look at the sunglasses in the Bunny painting.  Pure talent.

I did not pursue art after this and my talent level is still on par with these masterpieces.  I would sell these, or maybe even donate to a gallery, but my mother will not let them out of her possession.

I’m ridiculous.

Happy Rainy Wednesday.

Something to think about…

Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

To commemorate this monumental day in history, 1,000 foam dominoes, 2.3 meters in height, were set up where the Berlin Wall once stood. The blocks were painted by schoolchildren and stretched for 1.5 kilometres near the Brandenburg Gate and the German parliament and fell one by one, with pre-planned stops for speeches and memorials. The dominoes were conceived as a metaphor for the collapse of communism in the countries of eastern Europe after the Wall crumbled.

It really makes you feel lucky to live in a country like Canada.
